Pineapple Brown Sugar BBQ Sauce

Pineapple Brown Sugar BBQ Meatballs
This is the first recipe I would like to share with you guys today. A little backstory of how I came upon this; I was trying to find a unique BBQ flavor instead of the traditional ones you find at the store. I came upon this and tried it out using meatballs. I brought this to a potluck and this was the highlight of the potluck. This is a very easy recipe to make, however, this recipe could easily get ruined if not careful.

Here's the link where I gotten this recipe from. Thanks RecipeRebel for this delicious recipe!

Let's get started!

You will need:

  • 200 ml of pineapple juice (equivalent to 1 regular-sized juice box or 3/4 cup)
  • 3/4 cup of brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 pinch of red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder
  • 3/4 cup of ketchup
  • 1 pinch of salt to taste
  • 1-2 tablespoon corn starch
  • 1-2 tablespoon water
  1. Add all ingredients, except corn starch and water, to a medium pot. Mix well.
  1. Bring the sauce to a boil. Once it boils, reduce the heat to medium-low setting and let it simmer for about 10-15 minutes until flavors comes together. Occasionally stir the sauce to prevent burning.
  1. Mix equal parts corn starch and water. Slowly add to the sauce and stir, until you reached your desired consistency.
Serve with pork, chicken, or beef. In my case, I use premade frozen meatballs.

Brought this to a potluck at work and it was gone!
You may adjust certain ingredients (onion & garlic powder) to your tasting. If you want a little tangier flavor, add a little more pineapple juice. As I mentioned before, as easy as this recipe is to make, it is also easily ruined if not careful.

Tips:
  • To add more onion/garlic powder, just add about 1/2 teaspoon until you get the desired taste.
  • For more tangier flavor, add pineapple juice. I usually don't do measurements, I just pour little at a time until I get that extra tangy flavor.
  • Follow the directions on the package if you are using pre-package meatballs.
  • If you do not have Worcestershire sauce, you use a mixture of soy sauce and apple cider vinegar with a pinch of red pepper flakes. Adjust to your taste.
